Food Literacy and Food as a medium of social change
My idea of food literacy – Food literacy is a very dynamic
and integral part of our life that affects all the phases of our life
ranging from maternal nutrition when we are not even born to the healthy food which
we consume during our lifecycle. Food literacy is the ability of a person to
understand the nutritional requirement of the food and different time along
with its impact on ecology and the environment. Food literacy helps us to make
wise decisions with respect to our eating habits and will diversify the food
basket that can protect us from any nutritional deficiency and will make our
body more satisfied in terms of vitamins and minerals and also give the
capacity to everyone to grow its own food and meet his/her requirement.
For me FOOD
LITERACY means -
FOOD- Functioning Of Our Diet
LITERACY- Lifetime Investment To Energy and Rightfully Acquisition
of Capacity of Youth.
Food as a medium of social change- Whatever we eat and consume in any form will be reflected in our health, shown in our farmer field, and contribute to the primary and secondary sectors of our economy. A food literate community will always be at an advantage in fighting problems like malnutrition, hidden hunger, anemia, obesity, and all kind of health-related problems. A food literate country will give rise to a healthy environment and a healthy workforce which can contribute more to both rural as well as urban economies. As we are currently fighting with a very serious pandemic situation, food literacy can help us to fight any such pandemic by increasing our immunity and will also make us more close to our traditional rich Indian culture in which we have a lot of diversification on our plate and more diversification in our agriculture economy. Food Literacy will not only bring social change but will also contribute to our psychological and emotional behavior as growing our own food will give excellent positive energy to our minds.
